Sealing Or Expunging A Virginia Criminal Record ? Series Recap
This post concludes and recaps my series on the expungement (sometimes known as ?sealing?) of a Virginia criminal record. I felt it was necessary to write on this topic since many individuals are not aware that their arrest history can sometimes be cleared. Such history may be preventing individuals from gaining employment, housing, etc. The goal of my recent articles is to provide information which will help people to fully understand their rights and options. It has also been my goal to provide information which will be useful in the selection of an attorney. If you are attempting to clear your criminal arrest record, then contact my office today to speak with a lawyer.
I have addressed multiple topics over the course of this series. Issues which I discussed included:
- The effect of expunging a Virginia record
- Eligibility for expungement in Virginia
- The process of clearing a Virginia record
- The benefits of hiring an attorney to assist you with the process
There are several reasons why I chose to address these issues. First, many individuals have difficulty in finding employment, housing, or in otherwise passing a background check. This difficulty stems from a prior arrest record. Expunging the record can improve one?s chances of passing a background check. Second, while Virginia is stricter than most states regarding clearing one?s past, there are many instances in which a prior arrest can be expunged. Finally, knowing what to expect from the process can help to ensure that it is properly handled. Also, retaining an attorney can help to ensure that your case is processed properly.
One point I stressed in each of these articles is that it is best to retain counsel to assist you with the process. As a Roanoke criminal defense lawyer, I can help you to determine whether you are eligible to complete the expungement process. I can also take the necessary steps to move your case through the system. Contact my office today to speak with an expungement attorney.
